Draft — pending adoption. This is a working draft (v0.1, updated 2026-08-30), not yet adopted by the club. Nothing here is final or legally binding.

Fee Schedule — North Jersey Flying Club, Inc.

Effective date: September 1, 2026

This schedule publishes the Club’s current amounts. The rules that govern them are in Bylaws Article VI; this page is where the numbers live so members have one place to see them (Bylaws §14.2). The Board adopts and amends this schedule (Bylaws §12.2).

Membership

Amount
Buy-in, one time on admission$5,000
Monthly dues, billed whether or not you fly$150 / month

The buy-in purchases one membership. It is not a share of stock and carries no equity, ownership, or profit interest in the Club. On leaving, a member receives at most 90% of the buy-in that member paid, funded by an incoming member’s buy-in (Bylaws §6.1, §6.6).

Dues fund the Club’s fixed costs — insurance, tiedown or hangar, and the standing costs of keeping aircraft available — and are billed monthly whether or not you fly.

Aircraft rates

Rates are per tach hour, wet: the fuel is included, and you pay only for the hours you actually fly. There is no daily minimum on a multi-day trip.

Each rate is a base component plus a fuel component, calculated as described below.

N8528C — 1976 Piper Warrior PA-28-151 (160 hp)

Per tach hour
Base component$70.25
Fuel component — 10.0 gallons at $8.03$80.30
Current total$150.55

Published fuel burn for this aircraft: 10.0 gallons per tach hour.

The base component covers maintenance, the engine and propeller overhaul reserve, insurance, basing, and the Club’s other operating costs. It changes only when the Board changes it.

How the fuel component works

Because the rate is wet, part of it is the cost of fuel — and the Club does not know what fuel actually cost for a month until that month has closed. The method, published here in advance as Bylaws §6.3 requires, is:

Fuel component = the gallons per tach hour published for that aircraft × the fuel price for the month of the flight.

  • The gallons per tach hour is published above for each aircraft and is based on that aircraft’s average fuel burn. It is not metered per flight. The Board reviews it periodically against actual fuel use and adjusts it if it has drifted.
  • The fuel price is the price at the Club’s home base for the month in which the flight was flown. It is set after the month closes, so the fuel component for a month’s flying is known when that month is billed, not before it is flown.
  • The base component does not move with it. A change to the base component applies only to flights flown after the change takes effect (Bylaws §6.3).

Why the figure looks higher than the performance charts. It is gallons per tach hour, not per clock hour. A tachometer hour meter is geared to engine RPM and records a full hour only at cruise power; at taxi, run-up, descent, and other reduced-power RPM it runs slower than the clock. One tach hour therefore covers more than one hour of actual flying, and burns correspondingly more fuel than the hourly figure in the aircraft’s performance charts, which is stated per clock hour. You are billed on tach time, so the gallons figure has to be on the same basis.

The same monthly home-base price caps reimbursement when a member buys fuel away from base (Operating Procedures §5.2), so the two always agree.

The figure shown above uses $8.03 per gallon, the current price. Your bill will use the price for the month you flew.

Changes to these amounts

  • Dues — the Board gives at least 30 days’ notice before a change takes effect. An increase of more than 25% in any 12-month period requires a vote of the members (Bylaws §6.2).
  • Hourly rates — a change to a base component applies only to flights flown after it takes effect. The fuel component is determined monthly as described above (Bylaws §6.3).
  • Buy-in — a material change is a Major Decision requiring a member vote, and applies only to members who join after the change. A change is material if it raises or lowers the buy-in by more than $1,000, at once or cumulatively within any 12-month period (Bylaws §6.1).

Late payment, the balance cap, and the consequences of nonpayment are in Bylaws §11.3.

History

A departing member’s payout is based on the buy-in that member paid, not the current amount (Bylaws §6.6(c)), so past amounts stay relevant.
